It has been an interesting and exciting week for me! Here's how it went down...
More than a month ago a friend's boyfriend put me up for a job at his company. After about two weeks I wrote them off because my past experience usually shows that if I don't hear from them after two weeks, it's all over red rover.
In the meantime I got two days a week working at a retail place near my house. I started that one last week. This past Tuesday I got a call from the company asking if I would be able to come in for an interview on Wednesday morning. I was more than happy to, the job is in an outbound call-centre, but it's full-time hours with a 10 week contract with the possibility for being made permanent. I got some interview tips from my friend's boyfriend, including all the questions they were going to ask me.
I aced the interview because of my preparation and almost as soon as I got home, I got a phone call from them saying they were proceeding with my application. Could I please supply them with my references and would I be able to complete a background check? Of course I could!!
The next day (Thursday) I had to run around getting ID photocopies signed and confirm I was eligible to work legally in the country, and as that was happening I received a call from the company asking when I can start!! Of course I was elated. Until I realised I had to inform the retail shop boss that Friday was to be my last day.
So I rang the owner Thursday afternoon to tell her I'd had this amazing offer, and I was so sorry, I'd applied for the job before she'd offered me the job. It was the most awkward phone conversation I'd ever had. As soon as I told her everything (blurted, actually) she pretty much went silent and said "well there's nothing we can do about it". I also said I could still work Friday if I was needed. She almost didn't want me there, and I suppose it's fair enough. I was leaving her in the lurch at the last minute while she was still training me.
Friday was just awkward... especially after we closed. She had to recount the drawer to basically make sure I hadn't stolen any money, which seems a bit insulting, but she doesn't really know me that well. It was only my second week, after all. I did apologise again before I left, but it sounded like she was just really angry at me.
When the job was offered to me, Mum did tell her that I was looking for full-time work and she seemed to accept that. I just think she didn't expect it to happen so soon. At least it wasn't just after she finished training me.
The great thing about the 'company' (obviously I can't mention which one it is, so it is now the Company) is that they have a media & comms department based in Melbourne. Hopefully after I'm done working on me, I can transfer to Melbourne for a position in the department.
Another interesting thing that happened this week was something a lot of people were outraged about on Facebook. Some of you may already know the story, BUT here's what happened...
I was walking into Centrelink (for those of you playing overseas, it's the government welfare system) when someone in their black Subaru with a spoiler with Rhianna pumping through the sound system yelled out "fat bitch" (sorry for the swear word, I swear it'll be the only time) to my back. I thought this was absolutely hilarious. How do they know that I'm a b***h?? I will admit that I am fat, but I'm more at peace with it now that I know I'm rapidly losing weight.
I posted this on my Facebook status and so many people asked if I was okay. Many other people would have been in the corner in the foetal position crying their hearts out. I know it wasn't personal... everyone I know in Brisbane was at work that afternoon. And they're classier than to yell something like that out a car window. The fat thing, I've already explained. And I know full well that I am NOT a b***h.
When I told Mum what happened, she laughed as well. Good to know someone else shares my sense of humour. She even made a joke of it on Friday when we got some 'Skinny Cow' ice cream. Mum said "Do you want a skinny cow, you fat b***h?" Oh how I laughed...
The final thing that happened this week was that I saw my high school best friend for the first time in five years! She was down on the Gold Coast for work and asked if I wanted to drive down to see an 'old friend'. Of course I want to!! So we met up and went down to the beach for a chat and continued chatting for about six hours. Five years is a lot to catch up on... in fact we caught up on the past seven years. It was sooooo good to see her, because we were so close when we were teens and we knew each other when we were awkward adolescents. We could fully appreciate what we'd grown up to be and who we'd become. I'll definitely be seeing her when I return to Melbourne next month.
Weight-loss update:
I did very well this week considering it was the one week I assumed I'd either gain or stay the same. I lost 600g!! Which was something I was not expecting at all. These next two weeks will be a bit of a challenge. Mum has just flown back to Melbourne to visit my sister. Mum's been my support, especially with the eating. I have stocked up on WW meals, which are a bit expensive. But in the scheme of things, I'd rather spend the money than gain weight. So here's to a modest weight loss for the next two weeks!!
Total weight loss: 8kgs
